Tehama County Pharmaceutical Drug and Medical Waste Sharps Collection Program
FREE and ANONYMOUS pharmaceutical drug disposal is now available year-round for Tehama County residents.
Through the Pharmaceutical and Sharps Waste Stewardship Progam, an industry-run statewide medication and sharps waste stewardship program, residents can now access free and convenient medication drop-off locations. In addition, residents now have access to free mail-back programs for medications and sharps.

Additionally, through a partnership with the Tehama County Health Services Agency, Tehama County Department of Education, Tehama County Sheriff’s Department, Tehama County Solid Waste Management Agency and the Corning Police Department, two permanent pharmaceutical drug collection kiosks are available at the following locations during normal business hours:

FREE Home-Generated Medical Waste Sharps Disposal for Tehama County Residents
Did you know it is against the law to dispose of needles, lancets or any device that pierces the skin in the trash or recycling? The law helps protect solid waste employees and the environment. Tehama County residents can dispose of their sharps Free of Charge using this service.
By law, businesses cannot participate and must have their sharps picked up by a medical waste hauler.
Through the Pharmaceutical and Sharps Waste Stewardship Progam, an industry-run statewide medication and sharps waste stewardship program, residents can now access free and convenient mail-back programs for sharps from their local pharmacy. When purchasing your needles, lancets or other sharps please ask about the mail-back program for used sharps.

Follow the EASY instructions below to mail back sharps containers:
Step 1: Pick up a free sharps container and mail-back package at your pharmacy, request one here, or call 1-844-633-7765 and follow the prompts.
Step 2: Once you have placed your used needles into your sharps container(s), place it in the provided packaging and mail it back.
Physicians offices, dental offices and hospitals which create a large volume of medical and infectious waste may not dispose of these wastes in the trash. The California Department of Heath Services Medical Waste Management Program regulates businesses in Tehama County which generate medical and infectious waste.
